RCQ5-XXX

- Over The Air Commands
- Remote I/O Functionality
- Listen Before Send (LBS) Functionality
The RCQ5-XXX module by RadioControlli is not just a low-power radio modem, but a complete platform integrating advanced features that make it ideal for automation, remote control, and industrial IoT applications. Based on the Texas Instruments CC1312R chip, it offers a combination of high performance, low energy consumption, and robust channel management. Let’s take a closer look at the features that set it apart in the market.
- Radio Modem
It is a wireless radio modem with AT commands, providing an RS232
wireless link with an RF data rate of up to 200 kbps (modulation 2-GFSK).
- OTA Command
The module has the ability to manage 4 digital outputs and 4 digital inputs
both locally and remotely (OTA Over The Air Command) via sending
simple AT commands.
- Remote I/O functionality, this is a type of transmission bidirectional used
in the field of automatic controls. When you enable this, every time the
digital input changes state on station A, also the digital output of remote
station B it will reflect these states simultaneously and vice versa.
- Listen Before Send" (LBS) is a protocol used in radio frequency (RF) communications to avoid interference and ensure efficient use of the spectrum. Before transmitting data, a device listens to the channel to check if it is free. If the channel is clear, the device proceeds to send its data. However, if the channel is occupied, the device waits until it becomes available. This approach helps prevent collisions between signals, reduces t the likelihood of communication errors, and ensures more reliable and efficient communication in environments with multiple transmitting devices.
- Focus on Low Power Features: WOR (Wake-On-Radio)
One of the strengths of the RC-RCQ5-XXX is its intelligent energy management, essential for battery-powered devices or environments where operational continuity is critical.
Low Power Node Mode (LpNode):
AT+LpNode: Activates low power mode. When enabled, the module adds a longer preamble to transmitted packets, allowing the receiver to "wake up" only when necessary.
AT+WOR_Duration: Allows you to configure the receiver’s wake-up frequency, choosing between 1000ms, 500ms, 250ms, and 125ms intervals.
This architecture drastically reduces average consumption while maintaining the ability to receive data promptly. WOR is especially effective in wireless sensor systems, smart metering, and applications where battery life is critical.
Focus on Low Power UART (LpUART)
AT+LpUart: Enables low-power UART mode, maintaining data reception even when the microcontroller is in sleep mode.
Managed via dedicated pin (LP_UART_EN): UART is activated only when needed, with minimal consumption during standby.

Radio Modem
- Radio Modem with AT Command (Transparent transmission protocol)
The RF modem is very simple to use and provides an RS232 wireless connection with an RF data rate of up to 200 kbps. This transceiver has the functions of a full radio modem requires data in CMOS / TTL format on the UART TX input and returns the same data on the UART RX remote unit. Preamble and CRC are automatically generated and added to the radio frequency transmission. The module can also operate in Long Range mode (LRM) with a data rate of 2.5 kbps.

- 8.75ms Latency in a Wireless Radiomodem: A Remarkable Achievement
In the world of wireless communications, latency is a crucial parameter that measures the time it takes for a signal to travel from the sender to the receiver and back.
A low latency time is essential to ensure fast and efficient communication, especially in applications that require real-time responses.
What is Latency? Latency, expressed in milliseconds (ms), represents the delay between sending a data packet and receiving the acknowledgment of its delivery.
This parameter is influenced by various factors, including the distance between devices, environmental interference, the processing capacity of the devices, and network congestion.
An 8.75ms Latency: An Excellent Result
We have developed a wireless radiomodem that boasts a latency time of only 8ms. This is an excellent result, considering that typical latency for consumer devices like cable or DSL modems can range from 10 to 70ms.
An 8.75ms latency time is particularly advantageous for applications that require immediate response, such as online gaming, real-time voice communications, and remote control systems.
Conclusion : Our wireless radiomodem with an 8ms latency time represents a significant advancement in communication technology. This achievement not only improves the efficiency and responsiveness of applications but also positions our product as a leading solution in the wireless communications market.

OTA Commands
- Over The Air commands (OTA Commands)
The module has the ability to manage 4 digital outputs and 4 digital inputs both locally and remotely (Over The Air Commands) by sending simple AT commands.

ALARM FUNCTION
- Alarm
With this function, when a digital input change status (DEVICE A) a message will be transmitted via UART to the DEVICE B : “Alarm_0_1 ”

Remote I/O Function
- Remote I/O
It is possible Turn ON and turn OFF the remote IO mirroring function.
When we enable the Remote I/O function, if any Digital Input is change on the Station A, the digital output of the remote Station B will also mirror these states at the same time.

The Evaluation Board
The Evaluation Kit consists of:
- N.2 Evaluation Board with SMA Antenna
- N.2 USB cables
With this development kit it is possible to verify all the features and functionalities of the RCQ5-XXX module.
